Alan Murray has been involved with the development of All Faiths and None (AFAN) since its foundation in 2006, to promote dialogue and mutual understanding among all religions and beliefs, including humanist/atheist traditions, especially in education. He is also president of the European Network on Religion and Belief (ENORB), the European Equality Network implementing the EU Charter on Fundamental Rights in the field of religion and belief based in Brussels. He has been active in anti-discrimination and inter-faith work at community level since the 1960s. His career has been as a teacher, FE manager, university lecturer, civil servant (UK Department of Education) and programme manager for the European Commission, and was an adviser on education to the Archbishops’ Council and the Church of England until his retirement in 2009.
