Big Questions


Starter Options – (5-10 mins)

  • Flash up Big Questions and/or Common Themes and/or Quotes

  • Introduce video-clip, distribute question(s) if required


Contribute further questions, respond to quotes.

Is it okay to try to change people’s beliefs?
Can dialogue between different faiths and beliefs really stop wars
Aren’t religions all saying the same things?
Should there be limits to tolerance?
Is religion just a form of tribal/national culture?


Common Themes:



Activities (10-20 mins)

  • Play video-clip eg Inter-faith poem

  • Introduce ‘Hot Topic’ eg conflict between religions

  • Discuss different perspectives on inter-faith/ belief dialogue

In Group (or plenary):

  • explore responses to video

  • each group discusses 1 or 2 questions: one presents response

Conclusion (10-20) mins

  • Invite student responses

  • Introduce discussion on conflict and dialogue

  • Report back – how did video make you feel?

  • What questions are raised? Where do atheists fit in?
