In memory of the Norway attacks July 2011 - 'Corners In The Rain' by J Eoin

J Eoin is a London-based singer and songwriter - this is what he writes, and this is his song:

"I first travelled to Norway in the late '90's with a London based Irish band who needed a deputy guitarist for some gigs in Oslo. Over the intervening years I have travelled back and forth with different line ups to the point where I consider Oslo almost as a second home. I have made good friends there, shared some wonderful memories and have come to appreciate the gentle hospitality of the Norwegian people with their uncanny knack of replying back to you in your own accent!
Last year I was booked to perform a series of solo shows at the Dubliner Folk Pub during August 2011. Arriving after the terrible events of July 22nd I found myself entering a city deeply wounded by the events of the week before and a country struggling to come to terms with the fact that 'one of their own' had carried out this premeditated attack in Oslo and on the island of Utøya. Seeing the 'river of flowers' and the 'candles in the square' first hand was genuinely touching and very real. No newsreel footage or newspaper photograph could ever convey the enormity of the emotions displayed by these simple and enduring acts. The dignity of the Norwegian people during this most difficult time shone out as an example to the rest of the world.
You stand together and we all stand behind you."
